Fundraising underway for the first-ever 25-year veteran of Holly Springs PD

HOLLY SPRINGS, NC, July 19, 2021 – For a quarter of a century, Sergeant Rick Leach dedicated his life to defending and protecting the tight-knit community of Holly Springs, North Carolina. From the moment he joined the Holly Springs Police Department to his retirement in November of 2018, Sergeant Leach became a revered pillar of strength and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of the residents he served.

Throughout his illustrious career, Sergeant Leach displayed unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of the community. His tireless efforts and selfless service earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, as well as the gratitude of countless individuals whose lives he touched. Whether it was patrolling the streets, responding to emergencies, or lending a sympathetic ear to those in need, Sergeant Leach's commitment to his duty and his unmistakable smile became synonymous with the spirit of Holly Springs.

Retirement may have marked the end of his official role as a protector, but Sergeant Leach's impact on the community has far from waned. His legacy continues to shape the lives of Holly Springs residents, who fondly remember his dedication and kindness. However, adversity has now struck the very person who dedicated his life to safeguarding others. Last year, Sergeant Leach and his wife Jann received devastating news. His once-strong lungs, which had served him faithfully throughout his career, were now succumbing to the ravages of Pulmonary Fibrosis. The diagnosis was crushing, as there is currently no known cure for this debilitating disease.

Now, facing an uncertain future, Sergeant Leach finds himself relying on the community he so valiantly protected. As the need for a double lung transplant becomes increasingly urgent, his family and friends have rallied together to raise funds for this life-saving procedure. Recognizing the profound impact Sergeant Leach has had on their lives, the Holly Springs community and beyond have come together to support him in his time of need.

Under the exceptional care of Duke Hospital, Sergeant Leach is surrounded by a team of dedicated medical professionals who are doing everything in their power to guide him through this challenging journey. However, the costs associated with the surgery, lifelong medications, and ongoing medical expenses are substantial.
